Handicap betting can be described as the balance between two opponents. Using Handicap bets you can put the considerably weaker team ahead by more goals in football, ice hockey, handball and other sports. This is usually displayed as +1, +2 however for basketball and rugby where the scores are considerably higher it is usually measured in 10s, such as +10, +15 etc. The good thing about handicap betting is that you can get much higher odds on your bets. As a team with a poor record will effectively be given a head start by the bookmaker, with additional goals added to its final score, whereas an in-form team will have goals subtracted from its final score. This allows you to place a bet on the weaker teams because by using handicap bets you can even bet on by how many goals they will lose.
A good example for football handicap betting would be as follows:
A game between England and Malta in a World Cup Qualification Group game. England to win the game with -2 handicap odd is 2.10. Which means if a punter backs England to win the game with -2 handicap, England needs to win the game by two or more goals for a punter to score winner bet with 2.10 odd.
England – Malta 0:0 Result: Bet Lost
